Defining “Bravery”

What does “bravery” actually mean, if it does not encompass a level 22 character attempting a level 30 quest, solo?

I always find it interesting that people will run Delera’s Tomb for the Voice of the Master, but many don’t run Threnal for the Mantle of the Worldshaper. Who doesn’t love a cloak that gives free die hard, spell absorption and +5% XP, maybe I am just lazy but many times this lasts on my […]

DDOCaSplat! 18 – MikarDDO’s 10 Week Challenge: Week 3 pt 2

MikarDDO has set forth a 10 week challenge to complete dungeons on as low a level as possible in both groups and solo play. In this DDOCaSplat! special, you can watch Shamgar attempt to complete these challenges.

Week 3 – part 2: Complete ToEE pt 1 on elite with a level 4 character (techniclly i could have gone up to level 7 and still gotten the bonus point – yes 1 measly bonus point – but wheres the fun in that!)

woof.  That was a struggle at times, a grind at others.  I got in a solid groove using sneaky body pulling tactics to thin out the herds and it was highly effective.  I used my same character from week 2 (a level 3 paladin) but I took 1 level of ranger for infinite arrows and a little boost in range banking on needing more range than any additional defensive or melee power. I didn’t have too many problems until getting the air key – which was the last key I needed.  That cleric proved tough and his mephit friends didn’t help much either. There was also a sizeable mob of orcs waiting behind a spawn door – Yikes and I was out of Lay on Hands! It wasn’t until I was heading to the end fight until I suffered my first of 2 allowable deaths – oh yeah, there are traps in ToEE! Luckily it was the only batch i ran into. It was at this point my tactics took a notable turn towards ranged and that ranger level paid dividends.  First were several gargoyles – and my gear was suffering from gargoyles before so i used range more to preserve my melee weapons than anything else.  And then I relaized the keys dropped when I died in the traps.  And a group of mobs respawned. Lousy! Thankfully, I was able to reach the keys without going in the trap.

Then came the end fight.  I knew it was going to be tough.  I was aiming to take out the fire elly first, but the earth grab was too much to ignore, and indeed led to my 2nd of 2 deaths (and nearly a third a few more times!).  I managed to take out earth and was then able to take fire down shortly after.  I opted to kill the air elly right away since he was knocking me down – a major problem with a bebilith on your tail.  I ended up taking out water too – the bebilith was webbing me (despite a fire/cold shield!) so he needed to go. It got dicey, but eventually I was able to take out the bebilith.  The druid, while certainly able to do some damage, wasn’t too much of a problem once the shield came out and my MRR got a serious boost as did my dps.  Oh, and the cookie/cake stash saw very liberal use in here. A worthy investment considering how stingy i am and how not useful they are in higher levels. And 2 hours is a long way to go to fail (I could have been more liberal too).

DDOCaSplat! 16 – MikarDDO’s 10 Week Challenge: Week 3

MikarDDO has set forth a 10 week challenge to complete dungeons on as low a level as possible in both groups and solo play.  In this DDOCaSplat! special, you can watch Shamgar attempt to complete these challenges.

Week 3: Complete the Pit on elite with a level 4 character

I used my original ranger from week 1 (this task was completed before week 2 for this reason) which again proved mostly effective if slower than I would have liked. Ranged attack speed is surprisingly lacking at low levels. I know the pit extremely well so that wasn’t a problem. The prophets and their hold person spell proved to be quite taxing though and I didn’t quite remember the floor puzzles and ran into some problems there, though thankfully within range of the shrine. If I had to do it again, I think a warforged would be a better choice.

After the quest was completed I took a chance going for the Avatar ooze (and a muckdoom) but a champion trog warlord was waiting for me at the bottom of the shaft and he put an end to any hopes of that.

DDOCaSplat! 15 – MikarDDO’s 10 Week Challenge: Week 2

MikarDDO has set forth a 10 week challenge to complete dungeons on as low a level as possible in both groups and solo play.  In this DDOCaSplat! special, you can watch Shamgar attempt to complete these challenges.

Week 2: Complete A Small Problem on elite with a level 3 character

This Challenge was certainly more tricky than the first.  Attempt 1 (the same ranger from week 1) ended when 2 fire elemental champions roasted Brawnpits.  The second time around I used a different character (sword and board paladin for aggro management purposes) and had much greater success, but still ran into a few problems guiding Brawnpits back with a particularly lousy combination of fire elly champ and illusionist champ in the same group. It probably would have helped if i would have remembered to get ship elemental resistance buffs before I left.
