DDOcast Talks 1: MOTU Open Beta

Our round table talks on MOTU on Saturday night was a huge hit!

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Menace of the Underdark is now in Open Beta! This means the NDA is off and we can openly talk about the changes coming to DDO! With “Google Plus Hangout on Air” we went beyond our regular podcast episodes for our first impressions of DDO’s largest update since launch!

The talk lasted a little over two hours, and the group discussed topics such as the Armor Class changes, Spell Power replacing Spell Amplification, the “Hard-To-Kill” epic monster mechanic and its replacement “Haunting,” what is Weapon Damage and [W], Poison & Disease changes, Druids, and of course all the new Epics features!

Thank you Jerry (Cordovan), Jon (Littlewind), Patrick (Shamgar), and Coldin for joining us as guests! Also thanks to the great audience in our IRC chatroom!

  • I feel like I should say something about the chat from this event. I would like to restate that while I have some fairly large problems with the expansion I take no personal issue with the majority of the dev team and none of the community reps.

I can’t remember ever having a serious issue with anything Jerry has done as a part of his position with turbine and he’s always been polite, helpful, and understanding from what I’ve seen. He’s done exceptionally well as a community rep in my experience. If any complaints I had seemed in any targeted towards him, I sincerely apologize.

  • Thank you Onyx for being respectful. 🙂 I’m sure Jerry understands.

We all have concerns about the game we love to play, and its great that we’re talking about our disagreements about whats being done. I’m just so very happy that the DDOcast community is so polite

  • Any chance of an audio only? i know it might be difficult to follow, but i’very always listened to podcast over the road. important more in it to hear the discussion. Not to make any demands. just curious . thanks for all of you hard work with the podcast over.

  • Oh heck no, Onyx, never even occurred to me that your critical questions might be interpreted as having a problem with me or the Turbine team as a whole. A company doesn’t get into the MMO (or video game) business without understanding that you’re going to get a lot of feedback, both positive and negative, and being able to listen and respond respectfully to people who passionately disagree with you or your product/decision/change/whatever is truly a part of the job. I wouldn’t want it any other way!
